This cycle of conferences offers a journey through the major works of French literature, to discover or rediscover emblematic texts, bases of a common culture. In particular, we discuss the works that made an impact during their creation and after. We thus examine what makes a classic, by considering the various ways in which literary productions play with aesthetic codes and fashion models - from the Renaissance to the contemporary period. Each conference considers a particular period of French literature and analyzes two works.

  • The sixteenth century: from Ronsard to Agrippa d'Aubigné

  • The seventeenth century: from Malherbe to La Fontaine

  • The eighteenth century: from Voltaire to Sade

  • The nineteenth century: from Balzac to Zola

  • The twentieth and twenty-first centuries: from André Gide to Michel Houellebecq

Registration is possible for a single week or for many.
