Program

Cycle 2 retraces the century of the Enlightenment in France and Europe (circa 1680-1780) highlighting its impact on seventeenth and eighteenth-century society. The Enlightenment gave birth to the concept of public space, profoundly influencing the visual arts and spreading its ideas through literature and the theatre.

Be careful: Professor Rauzy's lecture on Week 4 will be replaced by the lecture Les lumières, ou l'union de la littérature et de la philosophie (Montesquieu, Voltaire, L'Encyclopédie) given by Professor Sophie Marchand, French Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts & Humanities Sorbonne Université.
